Mental Health Lived Experience Peak Queensland
Who We Are
The Mental Health Lived Experience Peak Queensland (MHLEPQ) is the Peak Body for mental health consumers in Queensland. We provide policy advice and systems advocacy for consumers of mental health services of all ages in Queensland.
What We Do
We represent and amplify the voices of people with lived experience to drive systemic mental health reform across Queensland.
Guided by our lived experience and a vision of a mental health system every Queenslander deserves, we base all our actions, advice, and advocacy on principles of equity, access, cultural safety, and Human Rights.
For everyone, especially those unseen and unheard. We empower and support those who have been silenced to stand up and speak out by fostering connection and strength.
We Are More Than Just Talk
We take action and contribute to change. We are a member-led organisation that listens, learns, and leads change together.
Through shared growth and learning opportunities, we support and strengthen confidence and comfortability to advocate both personally and systemically.
There is Power in Truth-Telling
Lived-experience advocates contributing to real systemic change, led by our lived experience of mental illness and suicidality committed to making a difference through our shared experiences, and vision for a better future.
Your experience matters. Become part of our movement for mental health equity!
NEWS & UPDATES
Welcome to the Team, Simon Katterl – Chief Executive Officer!
We’ve officially appointed Simon Katterl as our next CEO. We’re feeling very excited about the organisation’s future.
From the outset, we centred lived experienced wisdom in the process, MHLEPQ’s Board is Lived-Living Experience led, and the qualities we looked for came directly from what members have told us matters most: Lived Experience leadership, culturally safe and trauma informed practices, and a deep care for the mental health consumer movement.
Drawing on over a decade of experience in mental health, human rights, and governance, Simon Katterl is a strong advocate for lived experience-driven systems change. He previously chaired VMIAC, Victoria’s peak mental health consumer organisation, leading strategic initiatives, and CEO recruitment.
What stood out to us was his commitment to shared leadership.
He’s not here to speak for community, but to walk alongside us. To listen, learn, and hold space in relationship with us with as we move forward on this journey with the wisdom of many voices that live in every corner of this movement.
The Psychosocial Peak Body (PPB) has moved to MHLEPQ!
The PBB now operates under the MHLEPQ umbrella, meaning they are supported and connected with our broader lived experience leadership and resources.
The PPB’s work is intersectional and collaborative, reporting to and working under our direction to support Queenslanders with disabling psychosocial experiences.
To contact the PPB going forward, please email the coordinator at simonc@mhlepq.org.au.
